"Ephemera" - Mixed Media from  Kay Worthington
October 4 - 30, 2004
Artists' Reception: October 6th, 2004, 5 - 7 PM

"I read somewhere that there is an obvious link between what you collect and how you keep it and store it. These pieces are small containers for banal objects that fascinate me. My goal was to present oddly juxtaposed ephemera quasi-scientifically with labels, reference material and dates. If a cultural anthropologist discovered my studio under a pile of rubble, this is what she'd find. And if she catalogued her finds and tried to divine the culture of the owner of the objects, this is how she might present it. With mock seriousness, these pieces describe the transitory nature of life and how memories are shaped.

My day job as a graphic artist often requires me to rethink the ordinary and visually explain sometimes very complex information in a concise way that is quickly understood. My work as an artist is influenced by this focus (and vice-versa) and so the data of my life as a woman form this bricolage."
