A box is angular with straight edges and
90 degree angles. It is confining, restricting and oh-so predictable. Mary Lou
Zeek, owner of Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, is anything but predictable. She has invited
13 artists to “think outside the box” and provided each of them with a 7”
x 5” x 3” wooden box. Zeek encouraged the artists to push the limits and
create something unusual, out of the ordinary
and, of course, unpredictable.

"Things That are Useful"
by Paula Portinga
Mixed media artist Paula Portinga,
instructor of printmaking at Willamette University, reflects on the project. “I
love the idea of trying to fit my art into a new and different space. It has
given me an opportunity to think about how I work and what is essential to my
work while using a different design element to express it. It’s a format I
wouldn’t normally use and that’s exciting.”
Artists participating in the exhibit include:
Rob Dudenhoefer. Jewelry
Gene Feux. Metal, found objects

Sue Del McCulloch. Acrylic
