About the Artist
I started working with clay in the 1970s as a teenager at
Frog Hollow, a studio in Middlebury, Vermont. I learned enough there to get a
portfolio together and was accepted at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts
where I had plans to major in clay.
At the Museum School I developed an interest in animation,
originally wanting to do claymation, but eventually relying on my drawing
skills to make short films. This lead to a transfer to Cooper Union School of
Art in NYC and a career in the animation industry.
It wasn't until years later that clay yearnings
re-surfaced. I took a class at Greenwhich House Studio in NYC, sparking a
renewed interest in clay.
I then moved to Boulder, Colorado, where I taught
Children's clay classes and worked in the city-run studio started by Betty
Woodman. After a few years in Colorado I moved to Vancouver where I now live.
I discovered Oregon School of Arts and Crafts soon after moving here, where I
continue to work with clay.
I currently have a clay studio in my home and show my work
in galleries in the greater Portland and Seattle areas. I teach children’s
clay classes through a variety of programs in Portland and Vancouver and I
would love to make another animated film. I also have a two year old son who keeps
me on my toes.
